At only 18, Ella Mae Bowen is a budding Country Music recording artist signed to Big Machine records. Her rendition of 'Holding Out For A Hero' was selected in the recent Footloose movie. She writes music and plays many different musical instruments and is also an amazing singer. She's giving out 7 free song for download (and yes it's legal)
If you weren't there, you probably heard from your friends or saw the postings all over various social networking sites about what was going on at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus the entire day yesterday. Starting from 8am, the Reach Out convention was held and various speakers like Tan Sri Tony Fernedes, Dato' Ruby Khong and so many others were in the lineup. The entire event was absolutely free. I was not there at the convention, but I did go for the music that came afterwards.
The weather was scorching but the crowd was going strong and the normally quiet lakeside campus was filled with concert-goers and head-banging music fans. In the midst of the loud rock music, came Narmi (pictured below), with their sweet, and soothing music.
As day turned to night, David Choi, Chester See and Jason Chen were set to grace Malaysia with their presence. JinnyboyTV were also on the list as fans screamed at the glimpse of the YouTube stars and a growing crowd were waiting backstage for them to come out, hoping for an autograph or a picture.
Jason Chen came up and wowed everyone with a mandarin song and acoustic covers. He hit the notes effortlessly as the crowd screamed even louder.
David Choi came up next and shared his stories of love and life with a set-list of original songs. Accompanied by only his guitar and it was an intimate acoustic show. He even played a new song for the fans.
Chester See performed after on a keyboard at about 9pm and concert showed no sign of ending yet. Mesmerising everyone with his popular song 'God Damn You're Beautiful' and teasing the crowd with only one line of 'Bromance'.
I personally didn't really know their music that well so I can't say too much about what songs they were singing, but it was a great evening. I went because of my friend who has never been to a concert before and is a super huge fan of them wanted to go. We ended up meeting all of them and she got their autographs!
Since this is my very first post here I would like to say hi! and thank you for letting me be a part of this blog. I will be posting about music, music and lots of music now and then.
Hello people! As all of us may know, or some who are oblivious, our parents have to declare and send in their Income Tax payable statement to the Inland Board of Revenue Malaysia by 1st of April every year. Here are some tips where we as children can help them save tax the legal way!
1) Collect and pass them all receipts of bought books!
- Receipts of books from popular, MPH etc enables them to deduct a maximum amount of RM1000!
(Here books will exclude newspapers and banned reading magazines.)
2) Receipts of purchases of sport equipment
- Receipts of sport equipment can enable them to have a maximum amount of RM300 deductions!
(Sport equipment includes golf balls & shuttlecocks, Exclude Sport wears and Sport Shoes)
3) Personal computer
- Purchasing a laptop (personal computer) will enable deductions maximum up to RM3000 of the Income Tax!
Our parents have been running in and out day and night just to ensure that us as children gets to live life to the fullest. When we are busy growing up and enjoying life, make sure to care for them and share with them experiences by spending some time with them! Every working Malaysian is liable to Income tax and by doing our part we can at least contribute something or so!
But first, what exactly is the difference between gaming RAM and value Ram?
The singular difference between Gaming RAM and Value RAM is that Gaming RAM has a higher clock speed. What this means is that Gaming RAM releases the memory faster than normal RAM and so the performance will (obviously) be better. Standard value DDR3 RAM has a clock speed of 1333MHz. There are a few different types of Gaming RAM though so speeds can be 1600MHz, 1866MHz and even 2133MHz.
Is Gaming RAM worth the extra $$ though?
Gaming RAM, funnily enough, does not improve gaming performance all that much. I have personally tried this to find out. I used to use 4GB of value RAM for my PC. Games ran perfectly smooth on Ultra settings with no performance issues. After Switching to 8GB of 1600MHz Gaming RAM though, there was no noticeable difference when gaming. What I did notice however, was much smoother multitasking then I had previously. I would actually recommend that you guys get gaming RAM only if you do alot of multitasking while gaming or do other memory intensive stuff like HD video rendering as speeds will greatly increase for these kinds of usage.
Hi guys! I would just like to wish all of our readers, as well as my co-bloggers a very Happy Chinese New Year! May the Year of the Snake bring fortune, luck, peace and prosperity to all your lives.
Here is a short little music video to get you guys in the festive mood. I hope you enjoy it!
Chinese New Year aka The Lunar New Year is the most important of Chinese New Year Holidays. If any of our non-Chinese readers are interested to know more you can look here.
The Differences between A SSD and a Hard Disk Drive.
Some of you guys might have heard of the SSD (solid state drive) before, most of you probably haven't , so hopefully this article will help you guys understand what exactly is a SSD, and how it can be used to turn your PC into a supercomputer.
A Solid State Drive, put simply ''is a hard drive but is not a hard drive.'' This may sound abit confusing but it is actually very simple. What I mean by that quote is that a SSD is, like a hard drive, a storage device that is used in exactly the same way; to run windows, to store data, etc...
The differences between these two devices are in the internals. If you take apart a hard drive, you will actually see that inside it there is an actual disk that stores all your data. The internals of a SSD, on the other hand, is an integrated circuit. Think of it like a super fast, high capacity pendrive.
internals of a hard disk drive
A SSD is also ALOT faster than a standard hard disk. Due to the fact that it doesn't have to spin around a disk writing data and just *does it* speeds of a SSD can reach more than 5 times that of a standard hard disk. Your computer basically will start up in less than 10 seconds (personal experience) compared to a computer running a hard drive which might take about a minute or more to start. Performance, speed of the whole computer will also be alot faster (though this doesn't include gaming/3D graphics performance. If you want to improve that you will need to get a better graphics card.)
So why should I get a SSD?
Solid state drive prices are EXPENSIVE compared to hard drives. You can get a 500 gigabyte hard drive cheaper than a 60 gigabyte SSD. Because of this I would recommend you getting a SSD if you are a gamer/power user and speed is a must for you. If you are just going to use your PC for basic use, I do not think the price is worth it.
That is all, thanks for reading. Feel free to leave a comment below on your thoughts about the Solid State Drive. Peace.
At the age of 77, most would expect Dorothy McLennan to be enjoying a more laid back lifestyle.
But the former bank clerk is no ordinary pensioner. She is also a current heptathlon champion who competes against athletes half her age. ( A heptathlon is atrack and field combined events contest made up of seven events which are 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, 200m, Long jump, Javelin Throw and 800m).
Despite being in her senior years, Dorothy has snatched dozens of gold medals and world records from young competitors since she took up athletics professionally in her 50s.
The world champion pole vaulter, heptathlete and sprinter spends three days a week training for her next world championships, when most her age would prefer to put their feet up.
A double gold medal winner at the World Masters Championships - Olympic standard competitions of athletes aged 35 and over - the sprightly athlete is hoping to break the record in sprinting at the British Masters Championships at the end of February.
Mrs McLennan, who lives with her husband Ray, said: "People are always very surprised when I tell them I do pole vaulting and sprinting, but I don't see what's so unusual about it. "Nobody is too old to exercise and keep healthy - I'd recommend athletics to anyone." She is truly a very inspiring person. Good health is something that should be treasured in this world. If a 77 year old can do it, you can too! What are your thoughts on Dorothy McLennan and health in general? Feel free to leave a comment below.
It's funny how people make the differences seem so drastic, yet we are still similar one way or another.
yes, I'm talking about Singapore.
Living in S'pore for the past 3 and a half years (though I'll like to use the word 'stay'. it's temporary, you know), I've noticed there are some 'phenomenas' rather interesting,
worth mentioning,
worth to comment,
worth to laugh about.
It's a different perception altogether.
Next post on The Striped Lion: Language.

Finally the chubby guy who sang and danced ''Gangnam Dance'' , Psy, is coming to Malaysia for a Chinese New Year open house celebration. He will be performing his famous Gangnam Style in Penang on the February 11th. The event is organized and well funded by the current reigning party of Malaysia -- Barisan Nasional. And, oh... it cost merely Rm2 million (rumored) just to bring PSY to Malaysia.
Ahha! Here's the catch, elections are near - youths get 200 ringgit to buy their smartphone and now, the KoreanPop fans are getting a little bit of Psy. Sounds fishy isn't it? =P
I'm not going to elaborate more, what are your views on this? Is the KPOP glamor from ''you know who'' necessary? Tell us in the comment box below.
The Google Science is a competition opened for youths ages 13 - 18 from around the world searching for inspired scientific ideas that will possibly change our world someday. For the past couple of years Google hosted this event along with companies related to science and creativity such as National Geographic and Lego searching for young and aspiring individual from around the globe to show off their innovative ideas and inventions.

Alexander changed the world of communications while Louis created a whole new alphabet series for the blind. Both of them proved that young minds and young hearts can change how we live and how we think.
The grand winner for this year's Google Science Fair will get a paid trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions and $50,000 scholarship funding from the much loved Google. And also a personalized LEGO price. And much more.
Not only that, there are also the Finalist Prizes,Age CategoryWinners (13-14, 15-16, 17-18), Science in Action Prize, Celebrate the School Prize and Inspired Idea Award. Most of them consist of $50,000 scholarship fund from Google.

Research In Motion (RIM) now known as BlackBerry announced their brand new operating system the BlackBerry 10 and also two new phones, Z10 and Q10.
The BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 were announced recently at an event in New York to the world of mobile phones. But the question remain unanswered whether the much weakened BlackBerry still have the strength to compete with the much 'stronger' opponents such as the Apple iPhone, Samsung GS3 or the LG Nexus 4.
Both phones running with the brand new BlackBerry 10 OS (Click on the link to watch a video about BlackBerry 10).
Now, lets talk about the new phones. First, the BlackBerry flagship phone, Z10. It ships with a gorgeous 4.2 inch, 1280 x 768display with 356PPI. Z10 is powered by a dual core 1.5GHzprocessor, 2GB ram and 16GB of expandable storage. And it also have the NFC feature.
Next, the Q10. A more familiar sight towards BlackBerry devices. Yup, BlackBerry Q10 is a keyboarded smartphone like the previous BB Bold and Curve series.Unlike it's cousin (Z10) the Q10 comes with a smaller screen thanks to it's keyboard. Besides the physical keyboard and the awkwardsquare screen, the BlackBerry Q10 is identical to the Z10.
So, are you interested in these new phones? Are you willing to put down your beloved iPhone or S3 for the brand new BlackBerry 10devices? Please tell us by giving us your comments.
I am sure that everyone in the nation including myself is saddened by the fact that the body of William Yau, a 6 year old boy was found in the Klang river few days ago. William Yau officially went missing on Jan 16th, where his parents left him and his another 2 siblings in the car, while they went out to shop for electronic appliances. Many speculations had been made and mostly are pointed towards the fault of the parents. Should the parents be blamed for being such ignorant? Why must both parents be present to shop for the electronic appliance? Why can't one of them stay in the car to look after the 3 young children? After all we are not the parents and our point of view definitely will be different. Some say this incident is a general lesson for all parents out there. What do you readers think? Should the parents be punished? *Life is full of unexpected expectations from people around us. In the end, the one who bears all these expectations are us and these could be a type of psychological suffering.
At top speed of 322 km/h (or more) the Peregrine-Falcon is no doubt the fastest bird in the world. Wait, it is also the fastest member of the animal kingdom!
World's Fastest Animal on Land : Cheetah
The undisputed champion of this group is no doubt the agile Cheetah a.k.a The Spotted One. This agile creature is best described as elegant and graceful, born in a smallerskeletal structure when compared to the majestic lion or the leopard. Not long ago, a cheetah named Sarah broke her previous world record for completing 100m in 5.95s, while the fastest man in the world did 9.58s.
World's Fastest Animal on Sea : Sailfish
The Sailfish dubbed as the fastest fish in the world clocked the speed of 110km/h.
Buying a new graphics card for you computer can be difficult if you don't know what you are looking for. This article will hopefully clear up any confusion you might have. Normally with the latest graphic cards available, Nvidia GPU's come with 3 digit numbers and Radeon has 4 digit numbers. The
1st number is the generation of the card. For example, the Nvidia GT
530 would be part of the 500 series. Newer generation means more
features and abilities (example from 500 to 600 series, the
newer series would have a bunch of improvements/modifications from its
predecessor). The same applies for Radeon the only difference being
Radeon cards would have 4 numbers
The 2nd number is the relative speed in the lineup. So an Nvidia GT 520 would be 500 series and a 2 (low) end for speed. An Nvidia GTX 660 would be in the 600 series and 6 (mid-high) range for speed. An Nvidia GTX 690 would also be in the 600 series and 9 (very high end) for speed. So if you compare a GT 640 to a GT 580, the GT 640 is a newer model with some nice upgrades from the 500 series but isn't a very fast gaming card (low middle). The GTX 580 is one series older but still top end card so would easily crush the GT 640 in terms of performance. Even a GTX 480 which is 2 generations old, but again high end for speed would totally destroy the GT 640. [NOTE THAT THIS ONLY APPLIES FOR RADEON] The 3rd digit is usually a 0 or 5. Between a 7900 and 7950 it usually means a newer revision. Same generation, same high end speed, but the 7950 got a revision over the 7900. For Nvidia, GT, GS, GTX, GTS, etc are used to denote differences between fairly similar cards. Usually GT is base, GTS is better, GTX is extreme, and Ultra is high as they go. GS and GTS were used in older cards but nowadays the graphics cards only use GT GTX and GTM (for laptops only),
Wondering how to go on a diet effectively? Well, first and foremost it is one hell of a journey. It takes more than self-determination to make your dieting dreams a reality. Read the ideas below to give you a head start for your dieting journey!
Motivation
Take a picture of yourself and list out on everything you hate about being fat. Then, put it up on your refrigerator or anywhere you can read conveniently.
Tell your family and friends about your diet plan. Their motivation is as important as your determination.
Join a diet community, club or forum!
Know What to Eat and Do
Get rid of all junk foods in your kitchen. Your journey wouldn't be any easier with tempting junks lie before your own eyes.
Know your food. Do some research of your food because not all 'healthy' food have low calories count.
Do not starve yourself. Why? Because you are not getting the essentials to run your everyday activities.
Exercise. There's no way your diet plans would work if exercising is not in your list. It can be as simple as an hour walk or a 30 minutes swim.
Weigh yourself daily to keep track on your progress. If the results are a positive, take it as a motivation. If not, you might be doing something wrong.
Today is slowly becoming more and more about touch screen technology. First with smart phones, then tablets, now with Windows 8 computers are getting ready to step onto the market. However, a touch screen monitor can be quite pricey these days. There is, however, a cheaper option coming to you soon though.
The Leap is a small USB peripheral that senses the unique motions of your finger tips and enacts them on the screen. This means you have touch screen technology right on your finger tips without actually touching your screen.
The Leap is not on the market until February 2013, but are currently accepting pre-orders. For Technology like this, most people would think it would be extremely expensive However, this technology will only cost you the affordable price of RM 213 ($70).
It is essentially the size of a little flash drive, all you have to do is plug in your USB adapter and place in in front of your computer screen.
What Does It Do?
The Leap can do anything your fingers can. From navigating the Windows 8 navigation, to drawing in any 3D modelling software, to gaming! You name it, there are developers working on it right now.you can control just about any thing with the movements of your hand.It recognizes the difference between your thumbs and fingers and can even recognize a pencil. This makes the Leap the absolutely most advanced motion capture technology available to the general public.
Personally I haven't pre-ordered but I think I will be picking one up when they have their official launch. Feel free to leave a comment about your thoughts on the Leap Motion and whether this is something you will be interested in buying.
Dreamt about being a mayor? But, you don't have the minimal amount of experience to be one or maybe you're just too young to be one. Well, ambitious or not there's always a chance for you to build and govern your own city. Let me introduce ''SimCity'' to you.
Once I've asked a few friends of mine this question - ''What are man nipples for?''.
Dear Nipples... ;)
And as expected, the answers were either ''I don't know'' or somewhat an erotic answer. Years of curiosity and confusion on why man needed nipples came to an end, thanks to asapSCIENCE with his colorful, entertaining yet educational video.
